Hastings...a budding arts community.
Many talented artists, musicians, actors, and writers are proud to call Hastings their home, so it's no surprise that visitors have an abundance of arts and culture to take advantage of when staying in town. The "hub" for theatre, live music, galleries and public art centers is in Hastings' Historic Downtown.
The Hastings Arts Center, formerly Guardian Angels Catholic Church, is a stunning concert hall which features an art gallery and offers music lesson through their Blessings Academy of Arts and Music. Visit their website for a complete list of performances!
Just north of the Hastings Arts Center is a quaint community theatre that delivers powerful performances. Black Dirt Theatre produces dynamite plays with a group of talented community actors and also has a traveling improv group. Check out their events calendar for upcoming shows and improv showdowns.
Directly west of the community theater house is an eclectic new café, gallery and arts center which features a series of open mic nights, author series and live performances. Breakaway Arts Center & Café is the perfect place to feed the body, mind and soul with good food and culture. Stop in for a bite to eat or visit their website for a list of events. Surrounding these three art centers are pockets of public art. In the summer, the Rotary pavilion in Levee Park hosts a variety of events including live music, painting classes and outdoor movies!
Hastings sees the importance of art in the life of a community, so much so that in 2008 a group of citizens formed HPAAC, the Hastings Prescott Area Arts Council. HPAAC introduced events and programs for all types of artists and audiences in both communities.
HPAAC helped organize the River Valley Band and, in partnership with Prescott, established the Orange Dragon Art Gallery. The group also hosts an annual home and garden show, held in July, features gardens, homes, and businesses in Prescott and Hastings.
